Once again, as it has done in previous years, the rain stopped and the sun broke through right at the beginning of the event. Nine bike’s with a total of twelve riders participated in the 5th Motorcycle Poker Run fundraiser to benefit St. Joseph Parish. Everyone finished the 67-mile course, which began at Hager’s Farm Mkt., wound its way through Conway, Ashfield, Hawley, Charlemont, Rowe, Heath and Colrain before finishing up back at the Church.
Participants played 5-card stud, drawing a card at each stop. The winner, Donna Cloutier of Heath, won 50% of the entrance fees, which totaled $123.00. She generously donated $63.00 of her winnings back to the parish. It would’ve been almost impossible to beat her club flush.
Everyone got to enjoy a satisfying meal of hotdogs and hamburgers, salads, chips, soda and desserts, which were provided by Hugh Knox, Marion Scott, Claire Rabbitt, Nancy Finn, and cooked by Will Carpenter.
We thank our volunteers, who collected entrance fees, manned stops and generally helped out with the meal afterwards: Dcn. Tom Rabbitt, Doug Finn, Mike Slowinski, Larry Channell, Jim Kimberley, Claire Rabbitt, Nancy Finn and Will Carpenter.
And last, but not least, we thank the Franklin County Chapter of the Massachusetts motorcycle Association for their help in making our event a success.
