LAN Upgrade at St. Joe’s (10/9)

Fr. Tony has been struggling to “see” the NetGear G-band router in the rectory office (1 or 2 bars at most) since his arrival and it makes using his laptop virtually impossible from his 2nd floor office.  Since the building is very old, it has many walls and other issues that limit the range of our wireless router.  Therefore, it was deemed necessary to upgrade our wireless router to a Linksys N-band router, which has a much greater range than the current G-band router, and add a network extender on the 2nd floor.  The LAN was also secured with Wi-Fi Protected Access version 2 (WPA-2) security to prevent anyone nearby with a wireless-ready computer or mobile device from using our network. Without network security, our neighbors – or any hacker nearby – could “piggyback” our network, or possibly access information (personal parishioner information or financial records, etc.) on our computer. Thanks to Doug Gordon – PC Consulting for his knowledge and work.
