Eastern Kentucky Disaster Relief (3/9)

This email was sent by Fr. Dan Edelen, Pastor of Prince of Peace Church, and forwarded to us:

Eastern Kentucky Disaster Relief There has been an overwhelming number of inquiries from individuals and parishes looking for a way to help those who are in great need as a result of the tornadoes that hit last Friday. At this time we are trying to coordinate monetary and material donations to the most direct distribution points but limit unnecessary traffic into the disaster areas. On Sunday several parishes took up a second collection to support relief efforts. In solidarity with our brothers and sisters of eastern Kentucky, we are asking that all remaining parishes take up a second collection this coming Sunday. Funds should be sent to the Catholic Center -attention: Nancy Bailey. Please indicate on the check that it is for Eastern Kentucky Disaster Relief.

We have had a request for immediate assistance for the following material items: 1) Water 2) Formula water (for baby formula — “nursery water”) 3) Ready to eat foods (energy bars, beanie weenies, etc.) 4) Blankets (new) 5) Flashlights (& batteries) 6) First aid kits 7) Work gloves 8) Safety glasses 9) Garbage bags (big ones 50 gallons) 10) Duct tape 11) Storage totes / containers 12) Diapers and baby wipes 13) Toilet paper 14) Bar soap 15) Tooth brushes and tooth paste 16) Paper towels 17) Towels and wash cloths 18) Rope 19) Laundry detergent

(Please do not send clothing at this time)

You may bring your items to the Catholic Center in Lexington or the Father Beiting Appalachian Mission Center in Louisa where deliveries will be coordinated out to the specific locations.

Please continue to pray for the disaster victims, first responders and relief volunteers that they may be the face of Christ to each other during the difficult days ahead.
